First off, I apologize it has been a while since the last blog post. It has been a busy month and a half here at the office and at home, but I am ecstatic to be able to reach out today and talk about something very important. The birthday of Chiropractic!
Although the exact date has been argued about within the profession for the last few decades, today marks the 122nd anniversary of the first chiropractic adjustment delivered by Dr. D.D. Palmer to Mr. Harvey Lillard in Davenport, Iowa. Mr. Lillard received his first adjustment on September 18, 1895 and by his second adjustment this partially deaf janitor had all of his hearing restored. This is the event that started it all. Although Dr. Palmer may have an interesting and controversial past which lead to his founding the health care practice of chiropractic, the outcome was much more promising and rewarding than anyone could have imagined.
Through the last nearly century and a quarter we have seen this health care field be examined, scrutinized, attacked, but mostly celebrated. Many “miracles” have occurred for the health of millions of people around the world thanks to the work started by Dr. D.D. Palmer 122 years ago. Throughout all of the ups and downs during the last 12 decades, including the malicious attacks made through the mid-20th Century by the medical community, the healing art of chiropractic has remained and is continuing to change the lives of millions. The research is continuing to grow in favor as well as the public outlook on how chiropractic can be beneficial for their health and wellness.
So as we celebrate 122 years of the greatest, pure health care profession working to enable true human physiology let us also remember what we have been through during that time.
Happy Birthday Chiropractic! I am blessed to be able to provide your services to my community to improve their quality of living and expression of life!
